The diversification of Verizon Wireless‘ smartphone line continues. The carrier added to the Android and BlackBerry smartphones it already offered when it finally launched the Apple iPhone in February. Later that month, we reported that Verizon would soon get Windows Phone 7 in the form of the HTC Trophy. The Trophy was originally expected to hit shelves in March. We know now that didn’t happen, but it is finally launching this month.
SPECIFICATIONS
The smartphone will feature a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a WVGA 3.8-inch touchscreen in addition to a respectable five megapixel camera capable of 720p HD video capture with autofocus and LED flash. Other goodies include SRS WOW HD surround sound, 16GB on-board storage and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity. Business travelers will appreciate that the smartphone is global-ready and allows for the editing of Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel).
For some who may already have an Xbox 360, Microsoft and Verizon Wireless has sweetened the deal for HTC Trophy owners. Those buying the phone before July 15th will receive a free Xbox 360 console game. Gamers will be able to choose from Halo: Reach, Kinect Sports and Lode Runner. The deal promotes the fact that Windows Phone 7 is the perfect companion for a Xbox 360 gamer since it supports gameplay via Xbox LIVE and syncs with Xbox Live mobile to allow access to a gamer’s avatar, profile, and gamer score.
The HTC Trophy will be available at the Verizon Wireless website and at company stores beginning May 26th. The phone will retail for $ 149.99 after a $ 50 rebate, via a debit card, and a new two-year customer agreement. To purchase the phone, subscribers will need to sign up for both a Nationwide Talk plan and a smartphone data package starting at $ 39.99 and $ 29.99 respectively.
